8 great ways to make sure you get enough aerobic exercise

One of the best things a person can do for their health is to get regular aerobic exercise.
Exercise is incredibly important to our long-term health, especially when it comes to cardiovascular function.
Just exercising aerobically three times a week for 30 minutes can significantly improve the duration and quality of a person’s life.
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends for most healthy adults that they get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity (brisk walking, mowing) or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic activity (running, aerobic dancing).
It’s alright to spread out the activity over the week, or between moderate and vigorous exercise.
Here are eight great ways to work aerobic exercise into your busy schedule:
* Purchase a treadmill for your home. You can work out when you want, how you want and for as long or short as you want.
* Purchase an elliptical machine for your home. Just like with a treadmill, you can have total control of your workout environment.
* Instead of driving, walk to nearby destinations.
* Get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way to your destination.
* Wash your car, rake leaves or do some work in the garden.
* Engage in vigorous play with your kids.
* Walk around at a brisk pace while you’re on the phone.
* Park your car at the far end of the store parking lot.
These all may seem like small steps, but little things can add up to great results over time. As the saying goes, “Move it lose it.”
