Becoming a Healthier Desk Jockey

In our world of technology, more and more of us are getting less exercise while at work.  Whereas going to work once meant spending eight hours performing laborious tasks, many of us have become “desk jockeys” that sit at our desks and work on our computers for the majority of the day.  Is it any wonder that so many of us are facing the “battle of the bulge” on a daily basis?  If you are looking for ways to stay fit despite your sedentary workplace, here are a few tips for you to follow.

Tip #1:  Make Time for Lunch and Breakfast

One of the biggest mistakes many of us make is skipping lunch because we are too busy.  Or, we may be so rushed in the morning that we decide to bypass breakfast.  In order to stay healthy and fit, it is important for you to take out the time to eat at least three meals per day.  Otherwise, your metabolism will slow down as your body enters into survival mode and you will find yourself packing on the extra pounds while also experiencing a downward swing to your energy level.

Tip #2:  Find Opportunities to Workout at Work

Even if you are a desk jockey, you can find ways to get some more exercise into your day.  Rather than taking the elevator, take the steps.  Instead of sending paperwork with someone else that is already “heading that way,” walk it over yourself.  Or, take 10 minutes during your lunch break to go on a brisk walk.  Squeezing in even a little bit of exercise will help you keep your body fit and your energy level up.

Tip #3:  Set Up a Home Gym

If you can’t find time to workout while at work, you still need to incorporate a workout into your day.  One of the easiest ways to do this is to set up a gym at home.  Before you even sit down on your couch, head over to your home gym and get in a workout.  Not only will this help keep your body fit, it will also help you re-energize your body so you can tackle the things you personally enjoy in the evening – whether that is spending time with your family or enjoying your favorite hobby.

Tip #4:  Eat Healthy

In addition to making certain you eat all of your meals, it is also a good idea to implement some other healthy eating habits.  For example, replace your coffee and soda with water.  You might also want to consider making your lunch the night before.  That way, you will be more likely to include healthier foods.  Packing some healthy snacks is also a good idea so you have something healthy to munch on throughout the day if you become hungry.
