Are you looking for an easy way to lead a healthier lifestyle and to follow a weight-reducing diet? If so, the answer may be as simple as replacing some of the foods you eat with whole grain alternatives.

The reality is that including whole grains in your diet can help make your heart healthier while also helping your body burn fat more effectively. Not only can eating more whole grains help lower your blood pressure, it can also help reduce your cholesterol levels while also helping your body more effectively regulate its blood glucose levels. Of course, whole grain foods are also an excellent source of fiber, which means including more whole grains in your diet can help to make you more “regular” as well.

The good news is that there are plenty of foods that contain whole grains. In addition, since demand for whole grain foods continues to grow, so does the availability of these foods. A few examples of whole grains include:

·    Barley
·    Corn
·    Millet
·    Oats
·    Quinoa
·    Wheat
·    Wild rice

When selecting whole grain foods, however, be sure to look for those that are labeled as 100% whole grain rather than those that are labeled as cracked wheat, multi-grain or bran. Although these foods are typically healthier than white grains, they are not the same as whole grain foods. Also, don’t automatically assume that a food is whole grain simply because it is brown. Be sure to read the label so you can make certain the foods you are choosing are truly the healthiest option available.
