Interval Training with Your Treadmill

Are you looking for a more effective way to work out on the treadmill? If you are tired of walking, jogging or running for hours on end and experiencing little results. Or, if you are simply looking for a way to switch up your workout routine, you might want to consider engaging in interval training.

Interval training is a great way to help you burn off a greater amount of calories within a shorter period of time. Not only can it help you shed off those extra pounds more quickly, it can also help you improve your level of cardio fitness more effectively. You can also improve your endurance by engaging in interval training, as you push your body to go to the next level.

In addition to offering a number of health benefits, interval training is also simple to do. Simply put, you follow this routine:

·    Warm up
·    Run at a high speed on the treadmill for a short period of time
·    Slow your pace or walk for a period of time
·    Run at a high speed again
·    Return to a slower speed again
·    Repeat this process throughout the entire exercise session
·    Cool down

The amount of time or distance you dedicate to each portion should be based upon your level of fitness as well as your fitness goals. For example, you might warm up for about 10 minutes and then run at your highest speed for half a mile.  Then, you might walk or jog at a slower pace for three to five minutes before running again for half a mile and repeating the process.

If you aren’t sure how hard you should push yourself, you might want to meet with a professional trainer to provide you with some advice. Or, if you are very overweight or if you have other health problems, it is a good idea to consult with a doctor before starting any workout routine.
