Getting regular cardio exercise is great for you.
Whether you walk at a good pace, run, ride a bike, or do something else to get your heart beating faster on a consistent basis, it’s a great way to enjoy better health.
However, just about any doctor or trainer will tell you simply doing cardio isn’t enough.
It’s also important to perform strength training exercises several times a week. This will help maintain and even build muscle tone and even helps increase bone density. Although cardio exercise is great for heart health, it does not do a lot for muscle building.
As we get older it can become harder and harder to keep good muscle tone. Starting at age 40, people lose an average of eight percent of their muscle mass per decade. So yes even senior citizens should be performing strength training exercises, albeit with lower weights and higher reps.
It doesn’t have to be that way, though, if people of virtually all ages perform regular strength training exercises they can improve muscle tone and even strengthen bones.
A Home Gym or Functional Trainer is an excellent way to get good strength training workouts.
