3 Ways to Give Your Metabolism a Boost

Are you trying to giver your metabolism a boost?  If you are trying to shed a few extra pounds, giving your metabolism a boost is essential.  After all, the faster your metabolism rate, the faster your body will burn off calories.  While your metabolism rate is determined in part by your genetic makeup, there are a few steps you can take to help give your metabolism the boost it needs to move a little bit faster.  Here are a few things you might want to try

Don’t Skip Breakfast

Many people skip breakfast in the morning for a number of different reasons.  Some simply don’t feel like eating a breakfast after they first get up, while others mistakenly believe that skipping a meal will help reduce calories and, therefore, burn away fat.  Skipping breakfast, however, is a huge no-no if you hope to increase your metabolism and get a good start to your day.  When you skip breakfast, your body thinks it is starving and actually slows down your metabolism in an effort to conserve your energy until your next meal.  By eating breakfast, on the other hand, you give your metabolism the jumpstart it needs to start burning calories first thing in the morning.

Add Exercise to Your Routine

Exercising on a regular basis is a great way to increase your metabolism.  Not only will your metabolism get a boost as you are working out, you will experience long-term benefits as well.  Aerobic activity can give your metabolism a boost for a couple hours after your workout is over, while the muscles you build through strength training will help increase your metabolism 24 hours per day because muscle burns more calories than fat.

Eat Throughout the Day

When it comes to losing weight, most people think they need to starve themselves throughout the entire day.  The reality is that the opposite is true.  As mentioned earlier, skipping meals will cause your body to go into “starvation mode,” which means your metabolism will slow down.  Eating 5 to 6 smaller meals throughout the day, on the other hand, provides your body with a continual flow of energy and keeps your metabolism up throughout the day.
